After receiving this report and
memorandum I requested Mr. Percebois to furnish me with a
report on the working of those branches of the Harbour De-
-partment with which he had been connected for the purposes
of his report on the Junk Traffic; and I will address Your
Lordship in a separate Despatch at an early date on the
subject of the report which Mr. Percebois placed in my
hands.

Mr. Percebois terminated his
connection with this Government on the 31st. of July. His
assistance has been of value,and I have written to the
Inspector-General of the Imperial Chinese Maritime Customs
to thank him for his courtesy in placing Mr. Percebois at
the disposal of this Government.
